INJECTION MOLDING
BRAND NAME: None
MAKER: Toth Mold/Die,
Inc.
WEBSITE: www.tothmold.net
WHERE
IT’S MADE: Bedford
HOW IT’S MADE: Injection molding is a manufacturing technique
for creating various parts from thermoplastic polymer. Once a design
is complete, a mold maker builds a mold from tool steel or aluminum
to form the precise features of the desired part.
During the injection phase, polymer in the form of pellets is loaded
into a hopper on top of the molding machine. The extreme pressure
and friction generated by a reciprocating screw along with heaters
in the barrel produce the heat to melt the pellets.
The two halves of the mold close and are clamped together. Next the
melted polymer is forced under extreme pressure into the mold cavity.
It is then allowed to cool and solidify into the shape of the mold
creating the newly designed part.
The clamping unit opens which separates the two halves of the mold
and an ejecting rod and plate expel the finished part from the mold.
The process then repeats at cycles of 20 – 90 seconds on average.
HOW IT’S USED: Injection molded parts are light weight and
cost-effective to mass produce. It is the most common method of part
production used today. Various parts from the smallest component to
huge automotive parts are created using this process.
BACKGROUND: Toth Mold Die, Inc. has
been in business for over 30 years and is owned and operated by hands-on
brothers Tim and Tom Toth. It is a small shop that specializes in
custom injection molding and injection mold building for both small
and large companies as well as entrepreneurs. Services range from
complete product design to final part production as well as building,
sampling and debugging molds for other molding companies.
